Caretaker minister of tourism, Evtim Miloshev, predicts that the number of tourists in this country will grow by at least 10% during the summer season.

"According to data from the European Travel Commission for the first three months of 2024, Bulgaria is in the top spots in Europe when it comes to growth in the number of tourists compared to 2019," he told BNR. According to him, in this period, 39% more tourists visited the country.

Evtim Miloshev also said that an interpretative decision is being sought so that the 9% VAT rate for tour operators, which expires in June, could be applied at least during this season.

A problem in the sector remains the lack of staff and this forces employers to pay 20% higher salaries compared to last summer.
