Flow of foreign tourists to Bulgaria in 2023 reached pre-pandemic levels

The number of visits by foreign nationals to Bulgaria increased by 16.0% in 2023, with visits from Turkey and Romania contributing the most. 

This is stated in the BNB's economic review of the macroeconomic indicators of the Bulgarian economy published today. 

Thus, the number of foreign visits to the country has reached its 2019 level (before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the tourism sector), the analysis said. 

At the same time, the spending of Bulgarian citizens on trips abroad has increased by 16.3% year-on-year.
