Bulgaria and South Korea will sign a cooperation agreement for promoting contacts in the sphere of energy. Agreement for this was reached by Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov and the ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bulgaria Bae Jongin.
By a decision of the National Assembly from 23 February, 2024, the South Korean company Hyundai Engineering and Construction was selected for conducting negotiations as potential builder of units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, using the Westinghouse AP 1000 technology, the Bulgarian Energy Ministry says. Minister Vladimir Malinov and Ambassador Bae Jongin also discussed potential cooperation on the liquefied natural gas market. The Republic of Korea is among the biggest importers of LNG in the world and the Bulgarian side has a serious interest in purchases that would ensure additional diversification and energy security, Minister Malinov stated.
