A 3-day culture and gastro festival is taking place in Antimovo village near Vidin. For the 14th time the Razvitie-1926 chitalishte (community culture club) and the municipality are organizing the Gergiovden (St. George’s Day) festival on 4, 5 and 6 May, 2024. Vidin’s city brass band will give the start to the festival in Antimovo. Cookery buffs from Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia will vie in the “Wallachian cuisine, cooking over a live fire” competition.
Folklore groups from the three neighboring Balkan countries will make sure all guests are having a good time. There will be an Easter horo dance, and on the morning of 6 May – a festive divine liturgy at the St. George church and other events, including a lecture about Bulgarian traditions and customs.

Antimovo is just 2 kms. from the Danube River and 7 kms. from Vidin. It has 450 inhabitants, which makes it a village bustling with life compared to the other settlements in the Northwestern part of the country. The St. George church was built in 1860, in the time of Ottoman domination, with the participation and voluntary work by the public. The village’s chitalishte was founded in 1926, and at the time had its own male choir and drama company. Today, the amateur musicians from the Antimovo brass band are among the best and most sought after brass band performers in Northwestern Bulgaria.
