On Maundy Thursday, Orthodox Christians go back to the final days in the earthly life of Jesus Christ, the Last Supper of the Saviour with the apostles and the betrayal, his suffering, death and burial. The church services on this day recreate the events connected with the sacrifice of Christ.

“He who created the visible and the invisible world, after laying the beginning of the Eucharist, will be mocked, sentenced and will rise to Golgotha to save the human race, by shedding his own blood on the cross,” said Gregory, metropolitan of Vratsa for the BNR.
