Mountain hiking not recommended in the afternoon

Conditions for mountain hiking are good until midday, with the exception of the Balkan Range, where there will be fog and rain, the Mountain Rescue Service says.

In the afternoon the weather conditions will worsen and mountain hiking is not recommended. The snow cover in the higher reaches is blotchy, temperatures are high and the risk of slipping is high.

Over the mountains of Western Bulgaria and the Central Balkan Range there will be cumulus rain clouds, and thunder and rain in some parts, above 2,000 m. – snow. Over the Eastern portions of the Balkan Range, Strandzha and Sakar the chances of rain and slim.
