Bulgaria will assist Ukraine in the process of rebuilding its energy infrastructure. This was announced after a meeting between Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov and Ukraine’s ambassador to Bulgaria Olesya Ilashchuk.
“Deepening cooperation in the sphere of energy is of mutual interest to the two countries,” Minister Malinov said. The two also discussed the potential sale of parts of the equipment for the Belene nuclear power plant project to Ukraine, in accordance with the decision of the Bulgarian National Assembly from July, 2023. The meeting also focused on providing alternative gas deliveries to Ukraine when Russian natural gas is no longer transported across Ukrainian territory. “The implementation of the Vertical Gas Corridor is of strategic importance to the energy security in the region of Southeastern Europe. Upgrading the existing infrastructure will allow for the transportation of additional alternative deliveries to Ukraine,” Vladimir Malinov said.
