Parliament discusses tightening measures against smoking in closed spaces

The PP-DB coalition propose changes to the Health Act envisaging the ban on smoking in indoor public places to cover all smoking products, including non-tobacco ones as well as hookahs.

If the changes were adopted in the plenary hall, the sanctions for sites that do not comply with the ban would increase. Establishments that repeatedly violate the ban are threatened with closure for a specified period. State health inspectors from regional health inspectorates, who are charged with the task of monitoring compliance with the ban, will be joined by control bodies of regional food safety directorates, police authorities and persons designated by municipal mayors, the changes also envisage.
