Bulgaria's Islamic community celebrates Ramazan Bayram

Muslims in Bulgaria and around the world are celebrating today Ramazan BayramMuslims traditionally gather in mosques for collective prayer. On the holiday, the house and yard are cleaned and special dishes are prepared. Giving alms is considered an obligatory ritual, and the younger ones ask for forgiveness from the older ones.

Ramadan Bayram is celebrated for three days, during which visits are exchanged, and the traditional sweet dessert is baklava.

In an official address, the Grand Mufti of Bulgaria Mustafa Hadzhi noted that Bayram brings people together, regardless of religious or ethnic differences, and the times we live in demand that we be more united and more generous. In these days, praying to the Most High for those suffering around the world and to save our homeland from disasters is everyone's duty, says the chief mufti.

I heartily congratulate all Muslims on Ramazan Bayram, wishing them health, happiness and prosperity! Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev wrote this on Facebook. 

"Bayram unites people regardless of religious or ethnic differences. The time in which we live requires us to be more united and more generous, to respond to the call of everyone who needs help and to be empathetic to everyone's problems", writes Glavchev. He emphasized that Bayram is a time of reckoning and everyone should try to look at themselves and see what they have achieved and what they have missed.
