Slavin Slavchev and Marta Tsvetkova: For You

Slavin Slavchev has made a name for himself as one of the most magnificent voices of his generation in Bulgarian music – and not just in rock, as seen in his latest song For You. The song demonstrates how Slavin has evolved: it is his first duet – with Marta Tsvetkova – and it is also the first song written entirely by him - the music, the lyrics and the arrangement.

Marta Tsvetkova is a vocal pedagogue and an active performer. She has already had one song released and is currently working on two more. Marta and Slavin both teach singing at a music school. It was there that Marta told Slavin she wanted to work on some new music. He responded by saying he was ready to help with the technical side of things, but in the process of their work together he offered Marta one of his own ideas – the idea for the song For You – and the two quickly came to the conclusion it should be a duet. And they both wanted to deliver a message – through sound.

“The message is about the toxic relationship between two people that went on for a very long time," Slavin Slavchev explains. "Both know very well it is having a bad effect on them but neither is able to put an end to it. And they drag it out, hurting one another emotionally. I believe there are many people who can relate to that. I didn’t write it about myself, or about anyone in particular, it is not autobiographical. It’s just my own impression from people around me which helped me see this kind of relationship in a new light.”

There is a video to For You by young talent Nikola Atanasov. The video was made in February near Cape Kaliakra in high wind and temperatures almost below zero.

After the release of his latest album, Slavin Slavchev has been working by himself - without a producer, without co-authors, and he says this is a new beginning for him as songwriter covering the entire process himself. Marta Tsvetkova was one of the reasons why For You has more of a pop sound. And not just because Marta is a pop and R&B performer - it was more logical for the two of them to meet half-way - but also because in his studio work, Slavin says he re-discovered pop, and adds he has collected quite a few new ideas he is going to put together in an album very soon.
