Exhibition “The birth of the modern city” traces the development of Sofia after the liberation of 1878

The National Library Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Sofia is opening an exhibition today “The birth of the modern city” to mark the 145th anniversary since Sofia was chosen capital of Bulgaria. In 16 boards, the exposition traces the transformation of the capital city through the ages in archive documents, photographs, text and pictures.

Sofia was declared capital of Bulgaria on 22 March, 1879 (3 April, 1879, new style) by the First Constituent National Assembly held in Veliko Tarnovo after the liberation of the country.
