Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov has personally assessed the readiness of Bulgaria's airports for entry into the Schengen area by air on March 31. From that date, all citizens arriving from Schengen member states will not be subject to passport control. They will be directed through designated Schengen gates and will be subject only to security checks, the Interior Ministry said. "The abolition of border controls for Schengen countries does not mean the abolition of police controls," Border Police Director Anton Zlatanov clarified.

Children crossing internal air and sea borders will not be subject to border checks and the Border Police will not require written parental consent for Bulgarian minors travelling to Schengen countries to leave the country.
