Bulgaria has the lowest purchasing power in the EU, Eurostat preliminary data shows

Bulgaria's GDP per capita, expressed in purchasing power standards (PPS), remains the lowest in the EU, according to preliminary data from Eurostat, the official European statistics agency.

In 2023, the purchasing power of European citizens ranges from 64% of the EU average (Bulgaria) to 240% in Luxembourg. Bulgarians' purchasing power has increased slightly since 2022, when PPS was 62%, and since 2021, when it was 57%.
