The European Border and Coast Guard Agency "Frontex" significantly increased its contingent in Bulgaria during the staff rotation. This happened a month after Frontex’s Executive Director Hans Leijtens visited the country. In February, Hans Leijtens and Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov reached an agreement on a three-fold increase in the number of Frontex officers in Bulgaria.

The total number of "Frontex" officers along the Bulgarian-Turkish border will triple compared to the end of 2023, announced the Ministry of Interior. The Frontex officers come from various European countries. They have already been instructed and assigned to their locations. Among them are ID experts, crime-detection officers, dog handlers, and border guards. The joint Frontex operation in Bulgaria is conducted in parallel with operations in Romania, Moldova and Georgia.
