In a telephone conversation with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, head of state Rumen Radev thanked once again the Indian Navy for its high professionalism in freeing the pirate-hijacked bulk carrier Ruen and its crew, seven of whom were Bulgarians, on March 16, BTA reported. Radev praised the cooperation of the Indian authorities and the courage of the marines involved in the operation.
"The Indian naval forces have shown the important role of India in ensuring the safety of navigation in the region," the Bulgarian President said. The two Presidents agreed that the rescue of the hijacked Ruen strengthened the long-standing friendship between the two countries. The year 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and India. Droupadi Murmu invited Rumen Radev to visit India at a convenient time for both countries.
