The world premiere of the opera “The Borg People” by Austrian composer Helmut Neumann took place on the stage in Veliko Tarnovo.

This is the first 12-tone opera written in this harmonic system making it a scientific and musical experiment of worldwide importance, the organisers of the event said. Bistra Dilyanoff was the conductor of 15 soloists, choir and orchestra with musicians from Austria, Iceland, China, Belarus and Bulgaria. Boyan Ivanov was the director. The opera was written in 1981 based on the libretto by Oskar Willner. It is based on the tetralogy of the most famous Icelandic writer Gunnar Gunnarsson. The opera describes the life of a father from Borg Island. Instead of handing over the feudal power to his elder son, he chooses the younger one. A cornerstone in the plot is forgiveness, Helmut Neumann tells BTA. The author was present at the premiere. The opera is to be performed in Austria and in Iceland.
