Police presence in Sofia to be increased

At a meeting with the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, the resigned Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov promised that actions would be taken to ensure the safety and tranquility of the citizens and guests of the capital.

There will be an increased police presence in the city centre, in areas where people of different nationalities gather, and around refugee accommodation centres.

The measures were taken after fights in the center of Sofia between Bulgarian and foreign youths.

"I appeal that these cases, which have gained significant public resonance, should not be used politically and with attempts to instigate conflicts on a racial basis," Stoyanov said.

According to him, there is no increase in the cases of disorderly conduct involving migrants legally residing in Bulgaria.
