Tagarev: It is prestigious to help Ukraine, many claim the credit

The Minister of Defence has no intention to resign

Defence Minister Todor Tagarev appeared before the parliamentary Defence Committee to be questioned about military aid to Ukraine. Amid calls for his resignation from GERB and MRF, the minister told journalists that he had no intention of stepping down. "Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov will resign on March 6. Why should I resign days before that, it makes no sense," Tagarev said.
"Proportionally, Bulgaria is one of the countries that gives the most aid to Ukraine. We have provided Ukraine with more than 7 000 tonnes of material, mainly ammunition, tens of thousands of large-calibre ammunition, millions of rounds of ammunition and many other things," Tagarev said.

One argument for GERB's demand for Tagarev's resignation is the delay in sending the armoured personnel carriers promised by Bulgaria to Ukraine. "It is prestigious in the Euro-Atlantic community to help Ukraine, and perhaps there is a struggle here about who contributes most to this prestige. I would say that the credit goes to the cabinet," Tagarev said.
