Bulgarian lawyers adopt a declaration on the danger of undermining the independence of the judiciary

In a declaration, the General Assembly of the Bulgarian lawyers expressed "public indignation and intolerance regarding the information presented in the last two weeks about the activities of the circles around Martin Bozhanov aka the Notary and Petar Petrov aka The Euro, and the complete inaction of the prosecutor‘s office as the sole body authorized to bring charges against persons who have committed a crime."

Petyo Petrov has been associated with the ''Eight Dwarfs'' scandal related to the takeover of businesses through the participation of law enforcement authorities. The recently murdered Martin Bozhanov-the Notary allegedly owned a private club for magistrates. His name has been linked to reports of property fraud, bribery and extortion.

"The complete silence of the Acting Prosecutor General on these scandalous revelations is also strange", the declaration further reads. According to the lawyers, the special prosecutor tasked with probing the country’s chief prosecutor should initiate an independent investigation.
