Icons to be preserved in Lebanon under a foreign ministry programme

A team from the Bulgarian embassy in Beirut paid a visit to the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, founded in the 17th century by monks from the Lebanese Maronite Order.

They discussed the university’s readiness to implement the project “Preserving the collection of invaluable liturgy icons”. The aim is to preserve medieval icons, some of which with inscriptions in Old Church Slavonic. The project is part of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry’s operational programme Bulgarian Development Aid. The conservation will be done by Bulgarian history specialists and experts in the restoration and conservation of icons, the Bulgarian embassy in the Lebanese capital has announced, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.
