71.5% of Bulgarians define themselves as Christians, Muslims are 10.8%

More than 4.2 million people or 71.5% of Bulgarians define themselves as Christians, according to the data of the National Statistical Institute. 

Of these, 4 million are Eastern Orthodox Christians, nearly 70,000 are Protestants, about 39,000 are Catholics, and 5,000 are of the Armenian Apostolic faith.

Muslims in Bulgaria number over 638,000, or 10.8% of the population, 1,736 people profess the Jewish faith, and 6,451 people profess other religions.

The first seven days of February have been designated by a resolution of the UN General Assembly as World Interfaith Harmony Week, as the aim is to promote mutual understanding and interfaith dialogue, as well as the preservation of world peace.
