Bulgaria is in 67th position out of 180 countries of the world in Transparency International’s corruption perception index, and within the EU the country is second to last. Bulgaria scores 45 out of the maximum of 100 (very clean).

“Bulgaria has made progress as regards lack of civil unrest and overcoming political instability but it only pays lip service to anti-corruption efforts," comments Kalin Slavov, executive director of Transparency International Bulgaria. For the second year running, Hungary is in last position among the EU member countries with 42 points. Romania scores 46, Greece – 49, Kalin Slavov says.
