At an official ceremony at the Constitutional Court on Friday, Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov were sworn in as Constitutional Court judges. President Rumen Radev did not attend the ceremony. Earlier, he filed a request with the Constitutional Court to declare unconstitutional the decisions of the National Assembly on the appointment of Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov as Constitutional Court judges.

According to the country’s head of state, ‘’taking an oath to abide by the Constitution against the backdrop of serious suspicions of its violation is untenable’’. ‘’The head of state does not accept words going against deeds and ceremonies replacing principles’’, reads the position of the press office of the Bulgarian President.

However, National Assembly President Rosen Zhelyazkov, the President of the Supreme Court of Cassation Galina Zaharova and the President of the Supreme Administrative Court Georgi Cholakov attended the oath-taking ceremony.
