The Bulgarian Consulate General in New York congratulated grandmothers on Babinden (Maternity Care Day).
“The role of Bulgarian grannies is particularly prominent in raising the Bulgarian children, even in the US. Besides the immeasurable help in taking care of the children, they are their most important teachers of the Bulgarian language and traditions,” reads a post on Facebook. “The expression “It takes a village to raise a child” is very popular in the US. Taking into account our national psychology and traditions, the expression should, perhaps be amended to: It takes a village and/or a granny to raise a child,” the Bulgarian Consulate General in New York writes.
