Bulgarian Minister of Finance Assen Vasilev took part in the first meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council for 2024 in Brussels. The forum also discussed EU financial support for Ukraine.
Minister Vassilev said that the situation in Ukraine remains critical and the EU must act quickly. He expressed regret that no agreement was reached on the mechanism for Ukraine in 2023, as well as hope that an agreement will be reached at the beginning of February. The EU cannot afford to tie support for Ukraine to internal or other problems of the Union, he added.
From the very beginning, Bulgaria has strongly supported and will continue to support Ukraine, Minister Vassilev also said. He called for accelerated work on finding solutions for using the revenues from the frozen Russian assets, as this must be done in strict accordance with international law, BTA reports.
