Bulgaria’s Minister of Justice Atanas Slavov does not expect the President to derail the inauguration of a constitutional judge.
The MPs are to elect two judges from the Parliamentary quota for the Constitutional Court.
‘’I don’t see an argument why such a ceremony would fail, but if it did, it would raise very serious questions about the president’s involvement in these types of procedures", Atanas Slavov said for the BNR. He also commented on the recent amendments to the Constitution. In his words, ‘’these constitutional changes are a prerequisite to be able to talk about complying with the principles of an independent judiciary and about the accountability and responsibility of the Prosecutor's Office’’.
