Bulgaria, Turkiye and Romania signed in Istanbul a joint agreement to clear the mines floating in the Black Sea as a result of the war in Ukraine. The mission will ensure safe navigation. The minesweepers will patrol the area up to the end of the Romanian maritime border in the Black Sea, which is at the Sulina Canal or the second branch of the Danube delta.

Actions will primarily take place in the territorial waters and the exclusive economic zones of the participating countries. The Mine Countermeasures Naval Group Committee comprising the Chiefs of Naval Forces of the three countries will be the executive authority for decision-making, advice and operations management. The Mine Countermeasures Naval Group Committee will schedule operations in specific areas for 4 periods of 15 days in a calendar year, reported BTA and BGNES.
