The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) lowers the main interest rate to 3.79% in January 1, 2024, BTA has reported. This is the first cut in the key rate since October 2022, albeit by just 0.01% from December's level. In November, the main interest rate was 3.79%, and in October - 3.64%.

The BNB does not allocate funds for the production of euro banknotes in its 2024 budget and plans to initially borrow notes if Bulgaria enters the currency union from January 1, 2025. This is recorded in a document for the central bank's budget. Bulgaria expects to receive an invitation to join the eurozone next summer, with the indicative date being January 1, 2025, as for a month the lev and the euro will be used for payment in parallel.
