Bulgaria's government approves a new draft law on BNB

The Bulgarian government approved a new draft law on the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB). It aims at securing the legal integration of BNB into the Eurosystem upon the introduction of the euro in the country. A legal framework consistent with the Statute of the European System of Central Banks and of the European Central Bank is established.

The draft law settles the status of the euro as a currency and determines the design of the national side of euro coins, the issue, withdrawal, exchange and reproduction of euro banknotes and coins. It also aims to broaden investment opportunities by adding instruments that provide an opportunity for higher yields at slightly higher credit risk.
