Bulgarian parliament postpones vote on budget 2024 over absent minister

The National Assembly will hold extraordinary sessions on Monday and Tuesday (December 11th and 12th) to discuss  the government's project for state budget for 2024 at first reading and for the final vote on part of the tax laws planned.

Postponing the budget and scheduling it for discussion before next week's tax bills was opposed by BSP. The Chairman of the Budget Committee, Yordan Tsonev from DPS, said that the rescheduling is due to the absence of Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev, who participates in the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council. "The report of all the parliamentary committees is ready and now we can start. But do you want to start without the minister? You don't want to. We don't want to set precedents, so there is no ‘lack of logic’, as you say. On the contrary, we are moving absolutely consistently," Tsonev said in response to criticism that the procedure is being delayed.
