Momchil Mavrov has been elected deputy governor of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). He was nominated by the GERB-SDS party.

103 MPs voted in favour, 83 against. The deputy governor's mandate runs until 30 November 2028.

The presentation of the sole candidate, which was put on the agenda as an extraordinary item, led to a heated debate in Parliament that lasted three hours.

We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) said that it was opposing this candidate because of suspicions that he had lobbied for companies in the healthcare sector.

Mavrov denies being investigated or questioned in any corruption or lobbying case.
