The Sofia Municipality has received more than 1,000 reports about fallen trees and branches in the city as a result of heavy snowfall accompanied by strong wind, mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, announced on his Facebook profile. More than 150 of the trees have already been removed. There is no information about casualties.

The city transport operates in winter conditions. Roads on the territory of the Sofia municipality, where the snow cover reached between 25 and 35 centimeters, are being cleaned.

The power supply was interrupted in some areas and work is currently underway to eliminate the problems.

BNR listeners have reported that due to the lack of machines for de-icing aircraft, planes are currently not taking off from Sofia airport.

Later, at a briefing, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev said that the main road arteries had been well cleared and teams were working in the city districts. Terziev added that fallen trees and branches were creating difficulties for snow removal machines, as well as problems with the power supply in some areas.

“I have no information about injured people, but I urge citizens to be careful, as there is a danger of falling trees and branches,” the mayor also said.
