Government, trade unions and employers discuss 2024 budget

The National Council for Tripartite Cooperation meets today to discuss the state budget, the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund and the budget of the State Social Security for 2024. The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel, but Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov will also participate.

The budget foresees an increase in the minimum salary from January 1, 2024 - from BGN 780 (EUR 398) to BGN 933 (EUR 477). However, trade unions are demanding more money and wage increases in sectors such as transport, agriculture, higher education and healthcare. The Chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association Vasil Velev said on November 20 that the business would not support the budget for 2024. "There are practically no reforms. There is an outpouring of money that we don't have, there is an increase in debt, an increase in the cost of debt", Vasil Velev commented.
