Force can only be countered with force, so that no one crosses the borders of the EU and NATO, PM Denkov says

"If there is no stable state and national security, nothing else counts," said PM Nikolay Denkov at the Modernisation of Defence International Conference in Sofia.

Bulgaria has delayed a number of projects to modernise the army - aircraft, patrol ships, armoured personnel carriers, the coastguard - and should work for their successful completion, Mr Denkov said, adding that for a long time European countries had lived under the assumption that economic development would preserve peace. Now that illusion had been shattered, he pointed out.

"Force can only be countered with force. That is why we are here to strategise on what action we need to take to ensure that nobody crosses the borders of the EU and NATO," the Prime Minister said.
