Local elections runoff is taking place in Bulgaria on November 5

Today, November 5, the second round of the local elections is taking place in Bulgaria, with 6,038,052 voters having the right to vote. Mayors are elected where none of the candidates managed to win more than 50% of the votes in the first round last Sunday.

A runoff is held between the two mayoral candidates who received the highest number of votes on October 29. Voting was held for the election of 91 mayors of municipalities, 451 mayors of mayoralties and 31 mayors of districts.

Among the settlements where runoffs are held are 19 regional cities, including the three largest in the country - Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna.

Election day will end at 8:00 p.m. In the presence of citizens waiting in front of some polling stations to exercise their vote, the voting time may be extended by the Central Electoral Commission until 21.00. The first results of the exit polls of the sociological agencies are expected to be announced at 8:00 p.m.

The first round of Local Elections 2023 will be remembered for a number of irregularities the biggest of which is the machine voting that was cancelled immediately before the elections after a scandal.
