Stefan Komandarev's film Blaga's Lessons has won the Grand Prize of the Jury at the Rome Film Festival. The film is also Bulgaria's Oscar nomination. It is a co-production between Bulgaria and Germany. The films at the Rome Film Festival are judged by a jury of professionals from the world of cinema, culture and art.

The category in which Blaga's Lessons competed was Progressive Cinema – Visions for the World of Tomorrow. The Bulgarian film won in this category in a contest with 17 other films from different countries.

Blaga's Lessons has already won the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. The lead role is played by actress Eli Skorcheva, who is making her return to cinema after a 30-year hiatus.
Skorcheva's character is a recently widowed schoolteacher who falls prey to telephone fraudsters and loses all the money she had saved for her husband's memorial. Eventually she receives a tempting but suspicious job offer, and her moral compass begins to go dramatically awry. The film is based on extensive research and interviews with both victims of phone scams and investigating police officers, as well as a criminal mastermind.
