For the fifth consecutive year today will be organized a speed climb to the Kopitoto locality in the Vitosha mountain near Sofia in memory of Boyan Petrov. The race will be along the favorite trail of the great Bulgarian mountaineer.

The three-kilometer race will start from the metropolitan district of Knyazhevo at 9:00 am and will last until 12:00 pm. Participants will receive electronic chips along with their race numbers at registration. Each climber must pass through the starting arch for the electronic system to detect their chips. The finish line is at the Kopitoto tower.

Boyan Petrov was a Bulgarian zoologist, ecologist, speleologist and mountaineer who worked at the National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia. He has climbed 10 eight-thousanders without using oxygen and without Sherpas, despite suffering from type 1 diabetes.
Boyan Petrov disappeared in early May 2018 while attempting to climb the eight-thousander Shishapangma.
