There was a 19% increase in tourists visiting Sofia in the first eight months of 2023 as compared to the same period of the pre-pandemic 2019, BTA reported referring to data of the Sofia Municipality. More than 1.6 million overnight stays were recorded in the first eight months of the year. The foreign tourists came primarily from Israel, Italy, Germany, Romania and Turkey. The flow of tourists from Great Britain and Greece is also going back to previous levels.

Bulgarian tourists from other parts of the country have also shown greater interest in the capital. Ancient Serdika Archaeological Complex, "St. Sofia" Basilica Archaeological Level, Sofia History Museum and the Triangular Tower of Serdica, built after the mid-5th century, were among the most interesting archaeological sites. The guests of the capital city have also shown interest in cultural events such as Sofia Music Weeks, Opera in the Park, classical concerts at Alexander Nevski Square, the International A to Jaz Festival, etc.
