Kukeri masked dancers dazzle the audience in Washington DC

Bulgaria is taking part in the World Culture Festival in Washington, which ends on 2 October. The festival's programme states that out of 17 000 participants, nearly 250 are Bulgarians who came from different parts of the US to represent Bulgaria. 

The Bulgarian ensemble "101 Bagpipes" from Chicago, led by Kiril Ketev, danced in front of the Capitol building. Folklore groups from the states of California and Virginia, from the cities of Washington, Seattle, Minneapolis and Chicago also performed for the audience in Washington.

Konstantin Marinov's masked dancers Kuker group "Kra-Kra" from Pernik dazzled the audience with their masks, while singer Desi Dobreva brought Bulgarian song from across the ocean.  

Chief choreographer of the Bulgarian group is Irina Gocheva, and her assistants are Petar Petrov, Marieta Mircheva and Desi Jordanoff.

The festival, first organized in 2006 by the Art of Living Foundation, is not an annual event, but is gaining in popularity.
