Bulgaria should be an active member of the EU and NATO, setting the direction in them. Entry into Schengen and the Eurozone, membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, are the priorities for Bulgarian diplomacy outlined by Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel before the annual conference in Sofia of Bulgarian ambassadors and consuls.

There is still much to achieve with the USA and the UK and we should also look at Japan, India, Latin America, Gabriel said and called for clear procedures in the career development of diplomats and decent pay.

Domestic and foreign policy must be in full sync to be successful, stressed Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov in his speech.

The main goal of foreign policy is the national security and independence of the country. To have an effective foreign policy, we must have clear goals. These priorities must be communicated and defended with consensus, President Rumen Radev pointed out.
