Grain growers to protest against the resumed imports of Ukrainian produce

Bulgarian farmers are staging a nationwide protest today over the decision of the National Assembly to resume imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. They will block a number of roads. On Tuesday, the are to protest in front of the Council of Ministers building in Sofia.

''The industry insists that the decision to waive the ban on imports of Ukrainian goods be reconsidered'', Svetlana Boyanova, Executive Director of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber, said for the Bulgarian National Radio. ''We expect the state to create conditions, so we can look for markets'', Svetlana Boyanova added.

On Saturday, hours after he made the statement that he does not negotiate with terrorists, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said he would invite the grain growers "to a subsequent meeting" and said he hoped they would respond. So far, there has been no response to Nikolay Denkov’s outstretched hand.
