980 attempts to illegally enter the country have been foiled in the last 24 hours alone, Minister of Internal Affairs Kalin Stoyanov announced in Elhovo. Migrant pressure is many times higher than last year,  the minister said.

"There are days when the number of illegal migrants varies between 1,400 and 1,500 people per day. We have also managed to reduce the detentions in the interior," the minister said. He added that the possibility of reopening the migrant detention centre in Elhovo was being discussed.

Minister Stoyanov attended the opening of a memorial to the fallen border guards in the town of Elhovo, 28 km from the border with Turkey.
