"Kozloduy NPP will be allowed to negotiate and receive replacement of parts and components from Russian companies for the scheduled annual repair and maintenance works of Unit 6.

This was made known in a letter, notifying the power plant that the government has granted Kozloduy NPP a derogation from the bans imposed by Regulation No 833/2014 on restrictive measures due to Russia's actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine.

"Kozloduy NPP is the only nuclear power plant in Bulgaria, and it is the largest electricity producer in the country. It provides more than a third of the country's annual national electricity generation and is a key factor for the country's energy security. The plant was built to a Soviet design and much of its systems and equipment are of Russian origin, the government press office said.
