64% of Bulgarian are not aware of cyber security and 58% are ready to be trained. Almost half of Bulgaria's society say that parents bear the main responsibility for the safety of children on the Internet, according to a survey by "Trend" commissioned by the Union for Private Economic Enterprise, conducted among 1001 adults in the period July 3-7, 2023.
69 percent of Bulgarians do not know which institutions are responsible for cyber security and whom to turn to in case of a cyber attack, the first nationally representative survey on this topic in Bulgaria shows.
"One out of 20 Bulgarians becomes a victim of cyber crime. They are victims precisely because they are not aware of the ways to protect themselves", said Commissioner Vladimir Dimitrov - head of the Cybercrime department of the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime. He said that his department receives an average of 30 reports a day for nearly 15 different types of cyber crimes.
"Data show that our society has a serious need for information regarding cyber security. We are all very careful with the pin codes of the ATMs, but we easily upload photos on the Internet, locations and various information about ourselves," Evelina Slavkova from "Trend" said at the presentation of the results of the survey. The data obtained are important for the formation of clear messages and policies on the part of the state. The good news is that a large part of society wants to raise their awareness of cyber security and people are willing to invest time, energy and resources in this.
