Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev: The general budget framework shall not be altered

The general budget framework shall not be altered. If someone wants more spending for a given purpose, they have to propose cuts on spending for other purposes", Bulgaria’s Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev said after a meeting with MPs from GERB-SDS. As regards the trade union protest, Assen Vassilev said he would continue the policy of the caretaker cabinet, according to which those groups that received a pay rise last year should not be given a further increase in 2023, and those that did not get a pay rise in 2022 should receive a 10% pay rise this year.

"We have objections to the budget, but supporting the state budget is a purely political act", GERB leader Boyko Borissov commented. GERB will nominate Dimitar Glavchev for chairman of the National Audit Office. Glavchev was chairman of the 44th National Asembly in 2017. His nomination has been agreed with the coalition "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria", the chairperson of the parliamentary group of GERB Desislava Atanasova said.
