We will not hire helicopters for air support: Healthcare Minister

Photo: BGNES-archive

Bulgaria's Minister of Health, Hristo Hinkov, told BNT that he would request the termination of the contract for the lease of two medical helicopters.

"Air medical assistance has not been postponed. There is a preliminary part related to the rental of two helicopters... This is an extremely expensive and unnecessary decision, to use the rental of two helicopters. One flight hour costs BGN 18 thousand / 9.2 thousand EUR/", Hinkov emphasized.

He added that the helicopters could come without logistical readiness for them, so it is better to wait for the delivery of the air ambulance helicopters ordered by Bulgaria.

The first of these should be delivered by the end of the year or early next year.

Bulgaria is the only country in the EU that does not have emergency helicopters.
