MPs from GERB, We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) called on the Supreme Judicial Council to suspend the election of a new Prosecutor General until the final ruling of the Constitutional Court and the final adoption of the planned amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria, reads a declaration signed by the representatives of the three political forces. “We want a transparent and fair election of a new Prosecutor General”, GERB MP Denitsa Sacheva said. “The amendments to the Constitution should be adopted first. Then a new Supreme Judicial Council should be elected and then a new Prosecutor General should be appointed”, MRF MP Delyan Peevski said.

Ivan Geshev was dismissed from the post of Prosecutor General on June 15 by a decision of the Supreme Judicial Council. Later, a procedure for the election of an interim Prosecutor General was launched and Borislav Sarafov was appointed as acting Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria.
