Bulgaria has joined the countries boycotting Russian sport because of Russia's war in Ukraine. This happened at the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
In a joint statement, 41 countries called on “the international community to continue to show its solidarity towards the Ukrainian people by supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine’s sports facilities where possible”. “Russia should not be allowed to use sport to legitimize its illegal and unprovoked war against Ukraine, and Belarus should not be allowed to use sport to justify its complicity in the war waged by Russia against Ukraine", the document further reads.
