Exhibition recalls life in the barracks from the time when military service was compulsory

"When a boy becomes a man..." This is the title of the exhibition in which the National Ethnographic Museum recalls life in the barracks during "those 45 years" (of the socialist regime - ed.) For two months, from June 20 to August 20, the exhibition can be viewed in the central foyer of the former Princes' Palace in Sofia. It presents a collection of authentic objects from this period - uniforms, insignia and emblems of the types of troops and companies, soldiers' equipment, personal belongings, as well as documents and interesting photographs.
To complement the impressions, the information boards also contain excerpts from recruits' stories describing their personal experiences in the barracks. For younger visitors, there is also the fun game "Put on the soldier's helmet correctly". Among the items on display are gifts given to the conscript by friends and relatives at his farewell party, which may even be hygiene and cosmetic products used by men in the barracks.
