A partial state of alert has been declared in Etropole after heavy rain during the night. The three local rivers burst their banks, Etropole deputy mayor Stanka Dimitrova said for the BNR.
A major bridge to the pump station which provides the town with drinking water has been rescued. Homes have been flooded and people are pumping out the water themselves, with the assistance of the firefighters from Zlatitsa and Pirdop. The wastewater treatment plant is flooded, but there is no risk to the population. There are no reports of injuries, nothing people cannot cope with but the situation is serious, Stanka Dimitrova said further. On Thursday a commission is to list the damages after the flooding.
The state of alert in the three municipalities in Montana region remains in place. They were hit by heavy rain on Monday, the situation in Georgi Damyanovo and in Montana is now going back to normal.
“80 military personnel are helping the people in Berkovitsa who were hit hardest. I am expecting more troops from Belene with heavy equipment so they can start clearing the streets of the overbank deposits, of the broken asphalt,” said regional governor Valeri Dimitrov, and added he also expected volunteers.
